Lazio president Claudio Lotito was locked in talks yesterday with Uruguayan club Cerro. Cerro claim to own the registration of Argentina international defender Matias Lequi, who has agreed terms on a three-year deal with Lazio.
Lequi, who struck personal terms with Lotito last week, insists he is a free agent and Lotito is pushing for Cerro to produce concrete proof of their claims on the young stopper.
Lotito wants to avoid taking the transfer to a FIFA tribunal and instead, if an agreement can't be found, will keep his powder dry ahead of a fresh assault in January when the market reopens
