- The prosecutor says that Mauri made himself constantly available to the betting cell called "The Gypsies" throughout the 2010/11 season and that he has some role in the manipulation of the games against Genoa and Lecce.
- The evidence is that Mauri used a friend called Zamperini as a mediator between himself and the gambling cell. The cell are Hungarians, 5 of whom have been arrested and they were operating for a larger syndicate based in Singapore.
- Where is the evidence? Mauri had a betting card to an agency called "Samanta Romano". So did Zamperini and many others believed to be operation with the Hungarian cell. It is alleged Mauri used this card to place illegal bets.
- On the 14th May, one of the Hungarians named "Ilievski" arrived in Rome having been in contact with Tan Eng Seet, who is most likely his boss. The same day at 10.14am, Mauri sent an SMS to Zamperini. Almost immediately, Zamperini contacted Carlo Gervasoni (Cremonese footballer, the team where this match-fixing scandal has originated) and then Ilievski. Ilievski and Zamperini met, and the prosecutor believes it was discuss what Mauri had been in contact with Zamperini about. Later, they go to the hotel where the Genoa players were staying for the game and they believe they met with Omar Milanetto.
- So the suggestion is, both "captains" were involved in arranging a fix. Later that afternoon, Ilievski and Zamperini went to meet the boyfriend of Samanta Romano, who Mauri was placing bets through.
- The game was played and 4 days later (18th May), Mauri and Zamperini exchange SMS. On the same day, Zamperini contacts Ilievski and Ferrario of Lecce. A day later, Ilievski is back to meet Zamperini and on the same day. Zamperini sends SMS' to Mauri, Gervasoni and Ferrario. The night before the match, Zamperini was spotted around where the Lazio players were staying not long after receiving a phonecall from Ilievski. Mauri, 90 minutes earlier, had contacted Samanta Romano's boyfriend by phone in the same area.
- Ilievski contacted Tan Eng Seet on the day of the match. An hour before the game, Zamperini sent 10 SMS' to Mauri and 3 to Ferrario. After the game, Mauri and Zamperini spoke to each other on the phone.
- 2days later, Mauri and Milanetto held a metting together
That is the evidence.
Mauri's explanation:
- He claims he does not know Ilievski.
- He claims he is always i contact with Zamperini this regularly and he can prove it.
- He claims he hasn't placed any bet on those games.
