Lazio release Mancini Saturday 3 July, 2004

Roberto Mancini is now just days away from officially taking up residence at Inter after Lazio confirmed there had been a breakthrough.
“We all sat around a table and gave the Nerazzurri permission to negotiate for our Coach,” revealed Biancocelesti President Ugo Longo.
“The important thing about this meeting is that the atmosphere between the two clubs has cleared up again.”
Lazio were furious when Inter President Giacinto Facchetti announced that Mancini would be their next tactician, despite the fact he was still tied to a contract until 2006.
Longo’s immediate response was particularly worrying for the San Siro giants as he warned, “Inter will pay for what they have done.”
The situation has been dragging on for several weeks now, but last night the first and most important breakthrough was made.
Lazio President Longo and Director General Giuseppe De Mita met with Inter supremo Massimo Moratti and chief Facchetti to work out a system of remuneration.
This will turn into a massive deal for the two sides, as Inter are prepared to offer a large sum of money to bring in Mancini plus Lazio’s star players Cesar and Massimo Oddo.
The Biancocelesti would also receive the loan of youth team players Rebecchi, Beati and Potenza.
This now leaves Lazio with the freedom to pick their new Coach and the favourite so far is Angelo Gregucci, who this season avoided Venezia’s relegation from Serie B through a play-off win over Bari.
Other options for the Capital club include Udinese’s Luciano Spalletti, current Palermo boss Francesco Guidolin and ex-Reggina man Giancarlo Camolese.
